“The Mummy Returns” (2001) is a thrilling adventure film directed by Stephen Sommers, serving as a sequel to the successful “The Mummy” (1999). Set in 1933, the movie continues the story of Rick O’Connell (played by Brendan Fraser) and his wife Evelyn (played by Rachel Weisz), who now face an even greater ancient evil.
The film opens with a prologue set in ancient Egypt, where we witness the origins of the Scorpion King (played by Dwayne Johnson), a powerful warrior who seeks to conquer the world with the help of an ancient artifact known as the Bracelet of Anubis. Fast forward to the 1930s, Rick and Evelyn are now parents to Alex (played by Freddie Boath), a curious and adventurous young boy who inadvertently awakens the mummified High Priest Imhotep (played by Arnold Vosloo) and unwittingly sets off a chain of events that threaten the world.
