The plot centers on Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone), a structural-security expert who specializes in breaking out of high-security prisons to test their reliability. Breslin’s unique skills and expertise have made him the top authority in the field. He co-owns a security firm with his business partner, Lester Clark (Vincent D’Onofrio).
Breslin’s latest assignment is to escape from “The Tomb,” a highly classified, state-of-the-art prison designed to be inescapable. Once inside, Breslin realizes that he has been set up, and the mission is far more dangerous and personal than he anticipated. The warden, Willard Hobbes (Jim Caviezel), runs the prison with an iron fist, making escape seem impossible.
Inside the prison, Breslin meets Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger), an inmate with his own agenda and a strong desire to escape. As they face a series of challenges and betrayals, Breslin and Rottmayer must use their combined skills and intellect to outsmart their captors and uncover the truth behind Breslin’s setup.
