During the Warring States period, Nameless, a Qin prefect, arrives at the Qin capital claiming to have killed the king’s would-be assassins: Long Sky, Flying Snow, and Broken Sword. Impressed, the king allows Nameless to approach and share his story.
Nameless recounts killing Sky and then confronting Snow and Sword at a calligraphy school. After a series of emotional confrontations, Nameless claims to have killed both Snow and Sword, gaining their weapons as proof.
However, the king doubts Namelessβs account, suggesting the assassins willingly sacrificed themselves to allow Nameless to get close to the king. Nameless then reveals that he staged the deaths of Snow and Sword with their cooperation, but Sword’s belief in the kingβs vision for a unified China led him to spare the king three years earlier.
Inspired by Sword’s vision, Nameless decides to abandon his mission and spares the king. However, the king, bound by law, orders Nameless’s execution to set an example for unity. Nameless is honored with a hero’s funeral, and Snow, in grief after mistakenly killing Sword, commits suicide.
