Axel Foley, a Detroit police detective, is advised by his friend Deputy Chief Jeffrey Friedman to reconnect with his estranged daughter Jane in LA after causing damage during a chase. In LA, Axel discovers that his friend Billy Rosewood, now a private investigator, is missing and has been helping Jane, who is defending Enriquez, wrongly accused of murder. Rosewood is kidnapped by the cartel.

Axel goes to Beverly Hills, where he is arrested but later bailed out by Jane. He meets Captain Cade Grant, who seems suspiciously wealthy. Axel discovers Grant is involved with the cartel, using his mansion for money laundering. After escaping from being framed for drug possession, Axel and Abbott, who was also framed, steal a helicopter to confront the cartel.

They find Rosewood and rescue him, but Jane is kidnapped by Grant. Axel and his team fight the cartel, rescue Jane, and confront Grant, who is killed. With the evidence recovered, Enriquez’s charges are dropped, and Axel reconciles with Jane. Axel then reunites with Rosewood and Taggart, who were keeping an eye on him, and convinces them to go out for dinner.
