FURY (2024)
“Fury” is a war film directed by David Ayer, set in April 1945 during World War II. The story revolves around a single M4 Sherman tank named “Fury” and its five-man crew led by tank commander Sergeant Don “War-Daddy” Collier, portrayed by Brad Pitt. The crew includes a new assistant driver/bow gunner, Norman Ellison (played by Logan Lerman), who is a naive teenager with only eight weeks of army experience. As the crew presses on into the dangerous conditions of total warfare, they encounter the grim realities of war.
The film provides an intimate portrait of men in war, devoid of obvious glamour, and it delves into their Christian faith. Despite the bleak and disheartening setting, religious elements are woven throughout the narrative. The characters in the tank, including gunner Boyd “Bible” Swan (played by Shia LaBeouf), express their Christian beliefs, pray, and grapple with questions of salvation. The central theme becomes whether men like Sergeant Collier or their ammunition loader, Grady, can be saved.
