Term Life is a crime thriller film directed by Peter Billingsley, based on the graphic novel of the same name by A.J. Lieberman and Nick Thornborrow. The film stars Vince Vaughn as Nick Barrow, a seasoned thief who plans and sells heists to other criminals. After a job goes wrong, Nick finds himself targeted by dangerous enemies, including corrupt cops and a Mexican drug cartel.
Fearing for his life and the safety of his estranged daughter Cate (Hailee Steinfeld), Nick takes out a life insurance policy, hoping to secure a future for her. However, the policy only takes effect after 21 days, meaning Nick must survive long enough for the payout to be valid. As he goes on the run, Nick and Cate are forced to rebuild their strained relationship while staying ahead of the deadly forces pursuing them.
With a mix of action, suspense, and family drama, Term Life focuses on the bond between a father and daughter as they navigate a high-stakes situation. Vince Vaughn delivers a more serious, low-key performance compared to his usual comedic roles, while Hailee Steinfeld brings emotional depth to her role as the daughter struggling to understand her fatherโ€™s criminal past.
Although the film received mixed reviews for its pacing and tone, Term Life offers a solid mix of tension and heart, blending action with a story about redemption and second chances.
