Joss Whedon returns for this ambitious sequel where Tony Stark creates AI peacekeeper Ultron (James Spader) โ who quickly decides the only way to save Earth is to destroy it.
Downey Jr. continues to define Iron Man, though his arrogance sets off the chain of events. Hemsworth shows growing depth as Thor, and Johanssonโs Black Widow steps into leadership.
Whedon delivers spectacle, but the story feels overstuffed. Still, the performances and villain (Spader) shine.
