Smokey and the Bandit (2026) – The Legend of the Open Road Rides Again

🚗
The CB radios are crackling, the engines are roaring, and the chase is back on. Nearly half a century after Burt Reynolds made the Bandit a cultural icon, the high-octane outlaw comedy returns in Smokey and the Bandit (2026), a modern reimagining of the road-racing classic. Directed by Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 5–9), the film promises breakneck action, outrageous stunts, and the rebellious spirit that made the original a classic.
This new chapter follows Luke “Bandit” Harper (played by Chris Pratt), a charismatic ex-stunt driver with a knack for getting into—and out of—trouble. When a mysterious client hires him for an impossible cross-country delivery, he teams up with Sophie Reyes (played by Ana de Armas), a fearless driver with her own reasons to outrun the law. The job? Transporting a one-of-a-kind, custom-built muscle car across state lines while dodging every cop, bounty hunter, and rival racer in the country.
Hot on their tail is Sheriff Wade Colburn (played by Woody Harrelson), a relentless lawman whose vendetta against the Bandit becomes as personal as it is professional. Expect high-speed highway duels, jaw-dropping jumps, and a few winks to the original’s most famous stunts.
Cinematographer Stephen F. Windon (known for his work on Fast & Furious) captures sweeping American landscapes, sunset chases, and roaring engine close-ups, while composer Brian Tyler blends country-rock riffs with pulse-pounding action beats.
Director Justin Lin calls the film “a love letter to outlaw drivers and the golden age of car stunts—only bigger, louder, and faster.”
