The legend rides again—Universal Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for 47 Ronin 2, a bold continuation of the samurai saga, directed by Justin Lin. With an expanded mythos, higher stakes, and a blend of historical drama and supernatural spectacle, this sequel aims to forge a new chapter worthy of the original’s legacy.

Set decades after the fall of Lord Asano, the film follows Ayaka (Rina Sawayama), a master swordswoman descended from one of the original 47, living in a Japan caught between feudal tradition and encroaching modernity. When a secret cabal of warlords, aided by dark sorcery, conspires to seize the shogunate, Ayaka must rally a new brotherhood of ronin to defend the honor of their ancestors—and prevent the realm from collapsing into chaos.

Returning to the fold is Keanu Reeves as Kai, older, battle-worn, and carrying the weight of both victories and mistakes. Hiroyuki Sanada steps into a mentor role, guiding the new warriors while confronting ghosts from his own past. Joining them are Lewis Tan as a rogue swordsman with a price on his head, and Michelle Yeoh as a powerful mystic whose allegiance could tip the scales of war.

The trailer is a whirlwind of steel and shadow: rain-slicked streets echoing with the clash of blades, moonlit duels atop temple rooftops, and supernatural beasts erupting from ancient shrines.
